truebluemeandyou: “I Am Who They Were” Necklace by Artist Ashley Gilreath 2011. Reblogging because I am going to make this on a much smaller scale by using dollhouse frames/bezels and taken apart lockets (I could also make the frames by making a polymer clay mold). I would then print out photos on transparency paper (which I use all the time in my collages). *Another cheap gift idea I’ve done - print out a high contrast black and white photo on transparency paper and use neon green, white, or whatever color you want to back it with.
“I Am Who They Were” Necklace by Artist Ashley Gilreath 2011. Read the history behind this amazing piece and see more photos at Ashley Gilreath here. Ms. Gilreath created this necklace by casting dollhouse frames in silver and bronze and printing family portraits directly onto microscope glass.

DIY Temporary Tape Wall Art Frames from Design Sponge here. I always think anything framed in anyway elevates it from OK to something to take notice of.

Do you have old CDs and CD cases lying around? Repurpose them with these 10 DIY projects, including a planter!
Truebluemeandyou: I love these projects. I’ve been asked several times if I have tutorials to recycle CDs and their cases so I did a roundup of nine ideas for reusing CDs here. For even more ideas recycling CDs and DVDs like a greenhouse, free printable CD and DVD antique clock faces, color pencil carrying cases, chess and checkers set, CD weaving and more go here: truebluemeandyou.tumblr.com/tagged/cds
DIY Regular Deep Frame to Shadowbox Tutorial from EPBOT here. I’ve taken lots of classes in marbleizing, cake decorating, book binding etc… but the class that saved me the MOST MONEY was framing and mat cutting. This is a really good tutorial from recommending archival acid free foam core (thank you! Regular foam core WILL turn yellow) and using glazier points - easy and cheap. You can also add a mat (a good idea if you are NOT using a shadow box because it acts as a buffer between the glass and artwork/photo) and build up the foam core in stacked little squares under the mat to get this effect.

How would I make a “poor man’s copy” of this? By using dollhouse frames/bezels and taken apart lockets (I could also make the frames by making a polymer clay mold). I would then print out photos on ink jet transparency paper (which I use all the time in my collages).
