DIY 10 Minute Color Dipped Vase/Planter. This is basically an IKEA hack of the ikea blomster candleholders, but you could use anything. Love how you could make this so colorful and cluster them as a centerpiece or give as a gift. Tutorial from Design Love Fest here.
DIY Backlit Bookshelf. This project uses a dremel and is pretty complicated but I love how it looks.Tutorial at Pretty Handy Girl here. *What I would do: paint the entire bookcase a midnight blue and use glow-in-the-dark paint.

DIY Dry Erase Lamp. Glass, metal and other materials are great to use with dry erase markers. Like this idea of having something graphic and erasable/changeable when you get tired of it. Tutorial for shade and more infomation at The Creative Imperative here.

DIY Dollar Store Chandelier. Made from hanging baskets, spray paint, mardi gras style beads, and chandelier crystals (read somewhere that they are in the floral department at Michaels?). Easy tutorial at Brassy Apple here. Super cute, cheap and fun.

DIY Reverse Stencil Dresser. I find it almost impossible to paint over wood, but this is beautifully done. Tutorial also good because she lists resources: where she inexpensively bought stock images for the decals, and the decals themselves. Tutorial at Musings Flor’s Blog on Design here.

DIY Suitcase Table. Actually pretty easy! Tutorial from Mrs-Adventure here.
“You are my… Salvation”. Easy DIY. Seen at Decor8 here, Salvation Jane Pillowcases (link to $110 pillowcases here). Possibly use:
- freezer paper stencils (tutorials all over web)
- photo emulsion silk screening technique
- ink jet printer iron on transfers
- do it by hand with fabric paint
- sharpies (have seen this done on pillows)

DIY Picture Frames Turned Shelving. No real tutorial because all you do is add a wood base/box to a frame and hang it. From Change of Scenery here.
DIY Folk Wire Work Candle Holders. You will either love these or hate these folk wire work candle holders. I’ve always loved wire work and the more authentic folk art so you know where I stand. Tutorial at esprit cabane here.
DIY 5 Second Centerpiece. I have written here (about handmade gifts I’ve given) about how I gave gifts of lemons in various shaped thrifted cut glass bowls and vessels. Same idea here. From Real Simple here. *I don’t think you need the candy. I’d put something natural in.

DIY Illustrated Drum Shade. Idea found at Decor Hacks here where author writes:
If you don’t have the illustration skills of the folks from Hutch Studio, you could print off an image, tape it to the inside of the shade, turn on the light and trace the drawing on the outside of the shade.
Pictured Illustrated Drum Shade by Hutch Studio where the artist writes:
Inspired by a children’s book that my wife and son had recently given to me as a gift I decided to use the simple white surface of the shade as if it were a wrapped piece of paper to draw on. I first did a very light pencil sketch followed by line drawing with a fine point black sharpie marker. Subtle color was added with watercolors.
(Coffee) It adds the right warmth to white and tones down colors that are a little too bright.

ter·rar·i·um [tuh-rair-ee-uhm]
1. a vivarium for land animals (distinguished from aquarium).
2. a glass container, chiefly or wholly enclosed, for growing and displaying plants.
Recently, I saw that Bows and Sparrows had a terrarium workshop. Terrariums remind me Biosphere 2, recently acquired by the University of Arizona. It’s truly a time capsule- a slightly decrepit human terrarium. I loved it. It reminded me of all those dystopian science fiction stories I loved growing up. Terrariums make me think of the 70s when they mixed sleek modern design with a hint of nature peaking around the corner.
I’d like to make one of my own just to have a bit of the desert with me. So I’ve been doing my research. And since terrariums are making a come back (according to the New York Times) like so much decor of the 70s… the blogs are rife with terrarium information. So here’s allllllll the information I gathered.

DIY Tape Rugs of “Faux Rugs”. Not sure what type of tape they used, but it’s a clever idea. Photos from Atlantis home here.
