truebluemeandyou: Yes, but for some reason these type of earrings are called gauge or gauged earrings as well as plug earrings. Don’t know why but they are :)
mylove-theastronaut answered you: It’s incorrect terminology. I’ve stretched my ears and if you ask anyone into body modification they will tell you the same. Gauge is a unit of measurement to determine how large the plug is. Awfulmoditfications.tumblr.com is helpful in learning about body mods.

adranier: I have my ears stretched and have for about 10 years now. They are called plugs AND gauges. Gauges because they are of a larger gauge than normal. It is of course a type of measurement, but because they are used in sizing these types of earrings, people do call them that. Maybe it’s a regional thing..I hear plugs more often, but it’s not unheard of to call them gauges. It may be not be technically correct, but that term has been adopted in this sense.
redwoodislandtaketwo: The only people I’ve seen call jewelry for stretched ears ‘gauges’ are horrible hot topic teenagers and back when I was just shy of half an inch nothing pissed me off more. You don’t gauge your ears, you stretch them.
theextemporaneoussheikah: I meant gauges… sorry about that.. lulz, I guess it is habit for me to call them what they really are, plugs or eyelets or captive rings… constantly referring to plugs as gauges does not change the meaning of the word, it just highlights idiots.
prettykitschen reblogged this from you and added: We call them gauges in Orlando, at least everyone I know refers to them that way.
