truebluemeandyou: Reblogging because I posted this in November 2013. I knew this could randomly happen to my blog. So if you need another reason to backup your content…
This is why I’m so careful and cite original sources, read blogs’ policies on copyrighted material, and don’t collage entire tutorials. I just look at what happened to Bohemea - a blog that was much bigger than mine (150,000 followers and 100,000 posts). Bohemea was deleted after receiving several DMCA notices for several images on her blog. According to Bohemea she wasn’t given the option of removing the material in question.
Anatomy of how a tutorial gets stolen. Did you see my post: truebluemeandyou.tumblr.com/post/67611601497/why-you-should-pay-attention-to-copyright-laws-on-tumblr
Top Photo: Collage featured in DIY. love-this-pic-dot-com collages a tutorial, posts it on Tumblr then links it back to her site. I’ve complained about this Tumblr site before.
Next Photo Down: Link goes to lovethispic.com and is now watermarked and copyrighted by NBEADS: lovethispic.com/image/48003/macrame-bracelet-with-beads
Next Photo: lovethispic links to NBEADS (sister site?) and the photo is still watermarked and “copyrighted” by NBEADS with a tiny disclosure at the bottom, “Please Note: The original pictures are taken from http://www.fallfordiy.com/blog/2012/07/diy-macrame-knot-bracelet.html" Fall for DIY would be upset about this.
BOTTOM PHOTO: The ORIGINAL tutorial by Fall for DIY here: http://www.fallfordiy.com/blog/2012/07/diy-macrame-knot-bracelet.html
TOP POST: My original post. BOTTOM POST: Using another one of my blogs and altering the original content. I’ve taken down a bunch of posts recently that I found to be altered beyond recognition when rebogged. It didn’t used to bother me when people deleted some content from my posts until recently when people changed the content or tone of my posts - especially my TEXT POSTS. When I posted about this elsewhere people were incredulous that this could be done to an original post. Yes - on Tumblr people can put words in your mouth! I’ve already seen the potential of what this can do on my craft posts where someone will delete the entire post, leave the photo, and write, “This is f**king ugly.” Or on much more important posts I’ve made about hate speech and Neo Nazi Blogs on Tumblr. This will definitely change how I use Tumblr in the future.
If you posted something of yours - like a photo, craft or an outfit post would you like someone replacing your original post with “ugly and disgusting”? OF COURSE NOT.
